Soul Powered

This is the first digital painting I've completed in two years. I did it for the Soul Powered Art Show hosted by Ken Patterson at seven*studios in Jackson, MS.

I did the drawing in pencil, and colored it using photoshop cs2.

more movement experiments

Friday, October 20, 2006

I did this a few days ago. I found a old sketch i had laying around and redrew it and redesigned the characters. The first rough was just my idea of some bad ass kids I saw one day at the mall. I see all these really beautiful women and they have like 3 bad ass kids. lol!

it turned into ariel

I was coloring this and it just happened I am not sure how. So i figured why not do all the way.

I think I was subconsciously inspired by those afro ladies u guys put up. But I wanted an afro on one of the models for the Show Magazine article. Here's the greyscale, the color version will be in the mag.

24 hr Comic Attempt

well, i tried to do a 24 hour comic and failed... but in a GOOD way!
a 24 hour comic is basicly what it sounds like: a complete 24 page comic, written drawn and lettered all in one day. it's not unusual to spend a day drawing one page, so trying to do a whole comic in one day is pretty crazy.
thank comic book intellectual (no, that's not an oxymoron!) Scott McCloud for popularizing the idea...
anyways, i tried it, and got 10 pages drawn, which i will get posted this week (they still need to be lettered...). my friend mike did a good job of it last year using a stream of consciousness drawing technique, but that didn't work for me.
i wound up doing a spontaneous story that was basicly a grudge match between me and my roommate/homeboy Corance... it's the BOMB!
i'll post the pages in the next few days. and i will be finishing that story maaadd soon. just thought i'd share since i been awol...

Scene Concept overlay

OK here it is, based on my comments on this piece I have added a wider range of tones and ambient lighting. I have reduced some of the rim lighting as it was a bit over done.

I've provided a zoomed out view of my photoshop page to show how Im using the paths tool as a guide for my perspective lines. I have them anchored at the vanishing points and I move them between the tangents as needed. I have tried to remain true to his orginal drawing whille keeping the perspective in tact.

Dawuds drawing was an ambitious attempt at a 3 point perspective drawing with a tilted horizon line. This is a bit messy but I wanted to give you an idea of what the perspective break downs look like. If you want to get into concept drawing there's no escaping the need to study perspective drawing whether it be for vehicles, interiors or exteriors.

New Sketch jam for October 7th

New Sketch jam boyz and girls!
Last week I think it was Andre who suggested that we all submit a photo from our childhood and have the rest of the Allstars draw it. I'll be the first to post a picture of my knotted 4th grader head. So make it a caricature, a portrait, whatever. And dont forget to add a picture of yourself so I can draw YOU! Muhuhuhahahahahahaaaa!!

Valkyrie Wilde

This is the result of a collaboration between myself and my main man Mas (Marcus Smith). The drawing, done nearly 3 years ago is from a Tomb Raider spoof by Adam Warren. Valkyrie Wilde was a mascot for PSM magazine and originated from an April Fools Joke about the first Adults Only game.

Yeah, you guys may have gotten the hint from my last few posts that I'm kind of a romantic.

Broderick + Artesia (artgyrl)

Fall is my favorite season, and the most romantic in my opinion. These are two of my characters. They're usually pretty much at odds with each other, but I wanted to explore the possibilities for something more than mutual loathing.

new art

Some new art. Very simple color. Worked on this over the summer and decided to complete it.

I've been getting that drawing bug itch the last few days so I dug out the sketchbook and started drawing. This is a first on paper for me since I got the Wacom. So here is something for you to chew on until I post some more.

Confused Minds fan art

Stacy and Mike are the main characters from the comic by Ken Patterson called Confused Minds. It's fun to draw other's people's stuff and interpret it into my style. He quite liked it.

Enjoy. :)

Fan Art

This is for all you Boondacks hedz. I wanted to try to interpret the stylized look of the show with a more dimensional approach. I just love this show.

Re-Post from the Artbin

Sup everybody?! I put this little video together the other day of my drawing process. Now for the disclaimer: I was rushing and distracted. My cubicle is open and anyone can sneak up behind me. Also the people in my office are pretty loud. Anyway, enough with the excuses. I hope this will be the first of many drawing videos.
