Ben 10- The Complete Season

S'up errybody!? Here's the latest news on the McGee front. The complete Ben10 season 1 DVD was just released. I'm proud to have put my skills to use on it's production. You will find my touch on the cover, inner sleeve, the giant sized pull-out poster inside, even the animated wristwatch in the menu transition and menu back grounds. It was a ton of work in a short amount of time as usual but I'm proud of the results.

All Digital

Big announcement to all of you out there. This is my Second all digital piece. The first being my J Dilla piece. It’s a photo of a friend from her myspace. I was bored at work last week and want to try out the pencil brushes in Photoshop that I got a sometime ago. It does a good job of looking like pencils. I am working on get more comfortable with drawing directly off my Wacom tablet. One reason, I want to do this is because I’m always mobile in a way. Client meeting here, Seven* studioz there, friend’s house wherever. When I get home, I have to sit at my desk with the photo and start drawing it. Most of the time I’m really not in the mood for this I would rather be elsewhere. So by changing the way I do things will help me create more work. I can hear people yelling “natural medium blah blah blah.” I still will do my traditional way. I’m more of a illustrator than a traditional artist, a term I have coined “DigIllustrator.” (”BRILLIANT!” yells the Guinness beer guys) Computer isn’t going to change anything really. It’s just a tool, the same as a brush or whatever. Not as in, it can complete replicate the natural medium but in another tool in my tool box. This is not going to be a complete piece just trying out things. Look out for more experimenting. Like this in the future because Only Loves in Stereo’s background will be all digital.

I'm trying to have an art show in May or June so getting a faster process is good for me. I am going to finish the self portrait, and make it the show poster image.

Been busy as hell with this one project I'd I figured I'd take a break and post here since it's been a while....and before I get my ass booted off this thing. ;) Not even half done with this, but I plan on going apeshit on it in the coming week. Had to share. Hollaluyah Hollaback!

All things animation with Dan and Karen Haskett

Last night in the NY area Dan Haskett hosted an all things animation question and answer session. For those that don't know who Dan Haskett is, he was a disney animator, designer of Ariel for the Little Mermaid, he worked on shows like tiny toons and currently he is doing story boards for the tv series Class of 3000.

The lesture was amazing. It was really great getting to speak with him and he wife. If anyone is interested I wrote about the event on my personal blog. Please stop by and taker a look. Haskett is one of very few African American master animators out there.

Also on another note. That blog is intended to be an animation resource of sort for anyone that has something they learned and would like to share it so if anyone would like to be added to the list to share and talk about animation feel free to message me your email so I can add you.

Work In Progress

S'up yall ... This is a (W.I.P) character I've been working on lately. She is an artist and the main character of a graphic novel I'm working on. The patch on her arm "doesn't" represent America - there is a deep story that I have been developing for "years" (literally) behind it.
I am planning to change the color of the shirt to contrast with the background. I am also going to define the clouds more.

I ignored some freelance work last night to get some more work done on this. I'm not going to copy the arrows. The drawing is draw with pencil but the arrows are getting drawn digitally. I post this here first before posting it on my own site.

Lon Chaney Jr.

I drew and colored this one today when a co-worker of mine asked me to help her out by drawing a caricature of Lon Chaney Jr. I scanned a pencil sketch in and colored it in Photoshop. I thought it turned out ok and thought I'd post it to show you guys that I actually draw the old fashioned way sometimes.
