Last night

I created this last night at the Live Art i do at Seven* studioz. They wanted me to freestyle... so I gave them what they wanted. Live music and poetry always helps the juices flow. Sorry if it sucks. It's 1:16 AM central time when i just wrapped up.

I recently stumbled across this and decided to post it. Some of you will recognize a few of these drawings. You'll have turn off the embedded music player below to hear it. It's dated but this is the promotional presentation I used in lieu of a website a few years ago when I was living in LA. Done in iMovie on my laptop, I did mass mailings to get work.

Murder Rap by samax

what's good, family? i been madd busy (which is sometimes a good thing, and sometimes not...)! sorry to be a no-show, but i'ma try and do better, okay? this piece is for The Book of Angels and Nightmares a fancy-shmancy art book coming this spring from ArtLoveMagic.

anyways, this one's finally done. after the book is out, i will do my own prints of the image... if anybody wants to recolor it (ya'll are ALL better colorists than me!), lemme know and i'll shoot you a hi-res copy...

anyways, lemme know what ya'll (yeah, we really say "ya'll" in texas...) think.

mas' sketch

Heres a color sketch I did over Mas' drawing below. I changed her hair color to red because I guess subconssciously because she reminded me of Alias. Anyway I usualy light things from over head becasue its the safe way to do things for me. My training in commercial art dictates it becasue it's a general way to capture light. This time I went for a little more drama and mood without making things dark. I tried to play the the contrasts between the warm and cool flesh tones against each other to create some depth. This is why the back of her hand is catching warm light cast from over her shoulder although the area is bathed in cool light. I probably should have done the same with the light picked up by the gun.

Two of the Sketchbook Allstars are in the show. We hung it last night it was a fun but I'm also tired. We will have the opening later today. I'll have the final gallery up Friday or next week.
