Because of its mysterious transmogrification from a caterpillar, the butterfly is a universal symbol for intense transformation, usually for the better. If the butterfly is in the egg stage, the coming change is still but an idea. In the larva stage, a decision needs to be made. In the cocoon stage, you are working to make your dreams a reality. An adult butterfly flying in the air indicates sharing, or the need to share, your ideas with the world. Happy New Year 2006!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah yeah yeah! I know it's an old drawing but we're having a crisis with one of the cats here, and I haven't had time to do much drawing. I'll hafta play catch-up! This was a really good idea. Although we haven't had full participation on this blog as of yet, I personally am enjoying the results. We should strart seeing more posting from other members in the new year. Some of have had to endure final exams in recent weeks. (I hated school)

This weeks sketch jam was submitted by Sym7. The idea here is to come up with your own verision of one of the classic MGM monsters like the ones below. I dont think we should limit the drawings to these charatcers in particlular but let's keep it limited to the classics. The mummy, the Phantom of the Opera, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and the old King Kong can also be considered classic.

here's my abe , ill do a solid over paint but for the thread ,here he is a bit raw.here another variation of him . dont tell me u never thought it!

Here's my Abe. I used a different photo for reference. Made him all wacked out.

This is a pencil sketch scanned into photoshop. I was trying to do a caricature of Abe V. but he looks a little like Judd Hirsch here.
I've been playing around in Painter 9 lately and Im really starting to get a feel for it. Drawing with the Wacom tablet has aways presented a challenge for me so since we're supposed to be challenging ourselves here I submit my attempt at Richard Pryor drawn strictly with a tablet.

Here is my quick ruff! I did this in like 4 min. Just wanted to get things going.

For those who wanna do a second sketch this week I propose a sketch jam for my avatar, Abe Vigoda i just think he has a hilarious face. Andre suggested that we do Richard Pryor to honor his passing.

With the help of some friends, I have compiled a roster of talented artists to contribute to a weekly sketch jam by invitation only. Every week or so we will settle on one idea and we will each all take a stab at illustrating the concept. The level of completion can be from a rough sketch to a final tight rendering (although personally I doubt the latter will happen considering my schedule). Be that as it may, this blog is intended, for those who are involved, an opportunity to challenge one another, to challenge ourselves, to connect with our contemporaries in the field and to gain exposure. With that said I'll end this post with the first challenge. I would like to start out by attempting a sketch jam to honor a passing legend. The challenge can be simple and done in any format and can be drawn from any source, not just this photograph.
He had me up late at night with my tape recorder hidden beneath my pillow, memorising mudbone routines, stifling my laughter with my covers. He personally gave me days upon days of thought provoking entertainment and has been a huge influence in my life. Rest In Peace, Rich. You will be missed.
Post any off topic random crapola here
